Vivi\u00f3 hace unos 385 millones de a\u00f1os en ambientes de agua dulce del hemisferio norte, especialmente en lo que hoy es Canad\u00e1, donde sus f\u00f3siles se han conservado con un detalle excepcional. Su nombre significa \u201cala fuerte\u201d, una referencia a sus aletas lobuladas, que conten\u00edan huesos internos comparables a los de las extremidades posteriores de los tetr\u00e1podos.<\/p>\n<p>El cuerpo de Eusthenopteron era alargado y fusiforme, adaptado a la nataci\u00f3n en aguas tranquilas y poco profundas. Med\u00eda alrededor de un metro de longitud y pose\u00eda una cabeza robusta con un cr\u00e1neo bien osificado. Sus dientes, afilados y c\u00f3nicos, indican que era un depredador activo que se alimentaba de peces peque\u00f1os y otros organismos acu\u00e1ticos. La disposici\u00f3n de los huesos del cr\u00e1neo muestra una mezcla de rasgos ancestrales y derivados, con un patr\u00f3n que m\u00e1s tarde se simplificar\u00eda en los primeros tetr\u00e1podos. Uno de los aspectos m\u00e1s estudiados de Eusthenopteron es su mand\u00edbula, que presenta una estructura interna compleja y una musculatura potente, lo que le permit\u00eda capturar presas con rapidez y precisi\u00f3n.
