Cada segmento estaba compuesto por dos grandes placas dorsales y varias placas laterales que proteg\u00edan el cuerpo y le daban rigidez. Esta estructura no solo lo hac\u00eda resistente a los depredadores \u2014que, en realidad, eran escasos y mucho m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os\u2014 sino que tambi\u00e9n le permit\u00eda desplazarse con sorprendente estabilidad sobre suelos blandos y h\u00famedos. Sus patas, numerosas y relativamente cortas, se mov\u00edan en un patr\u00f3n ondulante que impulsaba al animal con suavidad entre la hojarasca y los troncos ca\u00eddos.<\/p>\n<p>A pesar de su tama\u00f1o intimidante, Arthropleura no era un cazador. Estas huellas muestran un patr\u00f3n de locomoci\u00f3n ordenado, con m\u00faltiples patas movi\u00e9ndose en secuencia, y revelan que el animal pod\u00eda desplazarse con sorprendente rapidez para su tama\u00f1o. Algunas huellas indican que Arthropleura recorr\u00eda largas distancias, quiz\u00e1 en busca de alimento o de zonas m\u00e1s h\u00famedas durante periodos secos.
